Lastly on Anderson’s article, he implies that conservative students are open to the idea of gay marriage — or at least civil unions — because they are rebelling against the hook-up culture in college.
There’s an element of that. But I’d attribute their open-mindedness on the topic more to the generational shift in attitudes toward homosexuality.
As I’ve been arguing, gay marriage becomes a no-brainer in a few decades, for the simple reason that everyone my age has grown up with gay culture being mainstream. Among those under 40, civil unions already enjoy solid majority support.
Now, I know this is the absolute worst nightmare of the National Review crowd — and it’s what they mean when they say Hollywood promotes the “homosexual agenda” — but the fact is the gays have won.
And God bless ‘em! Good work!
